Who makes ScanPal?
ScanPal is provided by Xprofit OÜ, a company registered in Estonia. Scores are calculated automatically from product data, and each score comes with an explanation.
How does ScanPal calculate scores?
Scores are based on nutrition data, additives risk, processing level, and explainable analysis.
Is ScanPal free?
Yes. Barcode scanning, health scores, scan history, favorites, allergen alerts, recycling guide and My Pantry are free. AI features such as AI photo analysis, Freshness AI and Deep Research use AI credits: new accounts get 5 free credits, and Premium includes 50 credits every month.
What if a product is not found?
ScanPal will search multiple databases and use AI as a fallback. You can also contribute missing products.
Does ScanPal support supplements, cosmetics, and pet food?
Yes. ScanPal supports multiple categories beyond food.
Do you store my photos?
Photos you take for an AI analysis are sent to our AI provider OpenAI for the analysis. ScanPal does not keep the photo; we keep the result and a technical fingerprint of the image for up to 90 days so the same photo does not cost another credit. OpenAI may keep request data for up to 30 days and does not use it to train its models. Photos you submit when you add a product are deleted 72 hours after processing; a small thumbnail stays with the product entry and is visible to all users. Details are in our Privacy Policy.

Does it work with non-food products?
Yes. You can scan supplements, cosmetics, medications, and pet food. ScanPal uses specialized databases for each category.
What is Freshness AI?
Take a photo of any fruit or vegetable and Freshness AI will estimate ripeness, days until spoilage, and give storage tips — all powered by computer vision.
How much does Premium cost?
Premium costs €5.99 per month or €39.99 per year, VAT included, and renews automatically until you cancel. If you have never had Premium before, you can start with a 7-day free trial: a card is required, and the plan you chose is charged when the trial ends unless you cancel before. Premium includes 50 AI credits every month. Without a subscription you can buy packs of 40, 100 or 300 credits for €2.99, €6.99 or €19.99; purchased credits never expire.
